JUNOS

So the Juno's have come to town. Walking by the downtown library I was interviewed by a lady with CBC about what I was looking forward to seeing on TV Sunday. I told her I doubted I'd be watching and that I'd like to have got a ticket to see them in person.

Maybe I'll get to meet Pamela Anderson. Party with Coldplay. Dance with Michael Buble.
Better make sure to wander the town this weekend and make friends.
First stop: Freak Lunchbox.
All the stars buy their candy there.

The Cell Phone

I've always been anti-cell phone. I don't like the idea of someone being able to get a hold of me whenever they want. Truthfully I'm not that big on the telephone either. I use it for my convenience. But all the ringing and interruptions, notabley telemarketers, gets to me. And the cell phone is a phone you carry with you.

I had to buy a cell phone for my job almost two years ago. I'm pretty good at using it for work and turning it off/on vibrate when I'm not working. I don't answer it when I'm with someone else, I keep it on vibrate, with the odd exception of waiting on an "important" call. I like the person with me in person to have my full attention.

That said... I have started using my cell phone more regularly outside of work for its features. I like the features my cell phone offers that I've only recently discovered. I like the alarm clock feature and use it daily. My favourite feature is the "Voice Memo"! I leave memos to myself all the time now. My first voice memo says something like:

"memo to self: use voice memo!"

Heresy, False Teaching and my Heart

What I've encountered, mostly in the last week, from Christians...

-God doesn't know the future
-You can live with your boyfriend
-God always heals everyone who asks and is in his will
-The Bible is fallible
-The Bible is full of contradictions
-lgbtq relationships are okay

The last three are from a chaplain on campus. There's so much more I've heard on the university campus over the years but lately there's been a lot. Wednesday was a long day.
I'm tired. I'm angry. I'm mostly sad.

Warrior Blogs

Yesterday a friend was over and I wanted to show her my blog and I couldn't access it on the internet... and I got way more angry and frustrated with it than I should have. Even the wave of relief I felt accessing it today (at last!) was probabley too much. I've got hooked on this blog thing. I check certain friends blogs daily... including my own.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I'm Irish. I celebrate. I'm wearing green right now. But none of this "kiss me" business.

Kelley is Gaelic for "warrior".

The Latest Trends in Sunday School

I teach Sunday school to girls grade one and two at church. I actually had the girls over for a "play date" of sorts. Things I'd planned for: lunch at McDonalds, making cookies, watching Veggie Tales. Things I hadn't anticipated: gymnastics practice in my tiny apartment, brown sugar everywhere, many drawings of "disco kitty" and "princess Kelley" (which I quite actually enjoyed). Depending on the Sunday there is anywhere from four to eight of them.

These are the latest trends:
-talking about their cats and/or hamster
-talking too little the first half hour, talking too much the last half hour
-catching other girls praying with their eyes open
-preference to our small group game (red light/green light) than the big group game (human knot or something with a lot of running and ducking and boys).
-drawing pictures
-enjoying Disney princesses
-collecting stickers

I must say it's a whole new world... and a whole lot longer at church but it's been worth it!

Thursdays

Thursday is my favourite day of the week. I've been fond of Thursdays since highschool. I love the anticipation of Friday and the weekend and it all begins on Thursday!!!

This particular Thursday has been a good one because of the people I get to hang out with. The sun is shining. There's a hint of spring in the air. And they were playing 3AM by Matchbox 20 on the radio which always puts me in a good mood-- Thursday or not!!

Mr. Johnny Cash

I watched "Walk the Line" today in preparation for the Oscars. I like Johnny Cash. I've always liked Johnny Cash. I think it's because my Dad likes Johnny Cash and I can remember him listening to Johnny Cash when I was young. And I like my Dad.

Fact: Johnny Cash's agent lived down the street from my first home in London, Ontario.

Fact: Johnny Cash and June Carter got engaged on stage in London, Ontario (the movie only references Ontario).

Truthfully, I have an affinity for Johnny Cash. I think it's strange feeling connected to someone whom you've never met. My heart warms to Johnny when I hear his name, his music or even watch this depiction of his life. I'm cheering for him. I get upset when I see crude pictures of him on campus because I don't think he'd appreciate the circulation. I look forward to meeting him one day.

You gotta love a man of faith. Who's devoted to one woman. Who plays guitar.
